About us
Lomond Mountaineering club is a diverse bunch of people from all walks of life who come together to enjoy outdoor activities. The main things we do are rock-climbing, winter climbing, mountaineering and hillwalking.
The hut at Onich - comfortable but basic - is the base for much of the mountain activity, with people meeting up there informally at weekends. There's good access from there to Glencoe, Lochaber, and Ardgour, a nice beach for barbecues, and a pub next door.
There are also usually people going out walking or climbing from the Central Belt just for the day at the weekend - car costs are shared, we'll often stop for a drink or a bite to eat on the way back, and an outing might involve both climbing and walking groups.
Wednesday night climbing is one of the mainstays of the club, with crag meets in summer and climbing walls in winter, and the meet at the pub afterwards - from about 9.30pm onwards - is also important. Outings are arranged on Wednesday nights at the pub, through the website forums, and by phone, and a request for people to do something with usually succeeds.
We enjoy the social side of things too, with a well-attended annual dinner and less formal events organised by members.
People who are new to climbing and hill-walking are welcome, and will usually find partners who'll help them learn the ropes.
Most members do other outdoor activities too: anything from sea kayaking and surfing to mountain-biking and caving, so it's a good club to expand your outdoor horizons as well as getting involved in the Glasgow climbing scene.
New members
We always welcome new members to our events. The best way to get involved is to come to the pub one wednesday night and meet us, then come out for a day or weekend meet. You might want to review our suggested kit list and have a look at our Membership Benefits first. You can join the website as a potential member to contribute to the forum, click here.
