Ardnamurchan meet

The meet happened, and to all those who said it'd be wet, it wasn't, at least not all the time, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons bothgave very pleasant climbing conditions. None of us - me, Joe and Rob, Veronika, her mate Vera, and Sandra L - climbed on Saturday though as it was nice and sunny and we all piled down the beach, me and the boys going in in wetsuits for a prolonged play and the girls braving it in just cozzies. After a good Saturday night during which I was compelled to drink whisky we climbed at Button Slab on the Ring Crags on Sunday afternoon.

Tower Ridge, a few tears, and a night to remember...

The weekend based at Onich was terrific, and I'm sure Russell would have been delighted that we all had such a good time in his memory. I don't intend to monopolise the write-up of the weekend, and it'd be great if others would put in here a few details of what they got up to and how they enjoyed it.

Maintenance weekend

The annual spring clean of the Manse hut went like clockwork on Saturday.
The place was painted inside, had a less manky carpet put down and a new fire alarm fitted. The leaky tap outside was also fixed.
In all seven turned up; Karin, Veronika, Scarpa, Martin, Brian Simo and me Jules, and all the work was finished by 3pm.

Ben Lawers Day meet

Simeon, Chris, Dave Foster, new member John (aka Johnnyboy) and me JulesH went up Ben Lawers (1214m) via Beinn Ghlas (1103m) by the main route from the National Trust for Scotland car park and came back down on the northern path circumnavigating most of Beinn Ghlas.
It didn't rain, although it was cloudy at the top of both Munro, so we didn't get any views. The wind was pretty fierce though, and we all managed to get to the top without using crampons. Just as well as I hadn't brought any or an ice axe.

our plan was to head for Stob Ghabhar and the waterfall that our illustrious leader hoped would be well iced up and indeed it was!

Cairngorm high camping meet – August 2009

This should’ve been put up on the board a good 4 weeks ago - to the point where I’m starting to forget what I actually did up there, but will endeavour to recall anyways...

--- --- --- --- ---

As per the meets list description, the Cairngorm high camp has rarely come off in the past due to weather and other factors. Having not had too much to do with the Cairngorms prior, this year I felt a bit of a need to commit myself; plus, with a Pyrenean camping holiday around the corner, I needed a run out with the tent on the back.

Nevis Ridges (Onich Hut meet July 09)

The threat of a dry saturday drew 7 lomonders, 3 of them new members, up to the hut for the weekend, a plan was formed in the Onich Hotel bar on Friday evening. Mark and Chris were converting their Classic Climbs ticks into Hard Climbs ticks and heading to Centurion. Jules, Matt, Ian and Daryl would go for Castle Ridge over the summit of the Ben and round th Carn Mor Dearg Arete. Rab was going to follow his nose and end up at a pub.

New members, old timers...

A trip in the best traditions of random spontaneity emerged from Saturday's day meet. Tenpole and Martin pulled out, with lame excuses such as "I'm ill" and "I have to give my sister am lift somewhere" and an expected rendezvous with Ardrishaig Dave failed to materialise, so I arrived in a rain-sodden Glencoe with Fireman Sam, Mudman Dave and Langy Andrew, all new/potential members. It was too grim to contemplate anything more serious so we enjoyed the soggy but airy scramble up the Zig-Zags, a walk to the top of Stob Coire nan Lochan, then a stroll back down the Lost Valley.
